April, May and June 2024 were incredibly busy months for DNOW Lights, as our employees continued to brighten our communities with warmth, compassion and meaningful acts of kindness! As we look back on the significant impact we've made working with these organizations, we are deeply thankful for our committed volunteers who embody the values of service and empathy. Together, we will keep bringing light to the lives of those who need it the most!
We joined forces with the Sunshine Kids Foundation in Houston, Texas on April 5-6, 2024 to help organize their Spring Party. Sunshine Kids offers uplifting group activities and experiences for children battling cancer, allowing them to enjoy the simple joys of childhood — having fun and embracing life! Whether it was arranging the ice cream station or cheering on the air guitar competition, DNOW Lights volunteers enthusiastically ensured these kids had an unforgettable afternoon!
On April 6, 2024, Weatherford hosted their 8th Annual MS Golf Classic benefiting the National MS Society. DNOW sponsored a hole, providing endless entertainment with our DNOW Lights ball cannon! We raised funds to help those affected by MS live their best lives and to support research initiatives aimed at stopping MS, restoring what has been lost and ending MS forever.
On April 25, 2024, DNOW Lights partnered with the Beacon Club in Casper, Wyoming for their Thankful Thursday event. Our DNOW volunteers were able to raise $17,045 for the Alliance for Attachment-Injured Families!
DNOW joined Team Weatherford in our first ever Texas MS 150 on April 26-27, 2024. The MS 150 is an annual two-day bike ride organized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, aimed at raising funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis research and services. The ride typically spans approximately 150 miles, starting in Houston and Austin, Texas, and ending in College Station. It attracts thousands of cyclists from across the country, making it one of the largest fundraising bike rides in the United States. DNOW had employees and friends from Louisiana join Team Weatherford, riding on behalf of DNOW Lights. Our riders, along with volunteers from Houston, contributed and celebrated with Weatherford on reaching their $1 million fundraising goal!
During the month of April, DNOW Lights encouraged all DNOW employees and locations to participate in our Earth Day Clean Up. This initiative included (but was not limited to) cleaning our shops, vehicles, fence lines, offices and more. Our dedicated employees worked hard to tidy our locations and help preserve our environment.
DNOW Lights hosted its 2nd Annual Charity Cornhole Tournament benefitting redM on May 3, 2024. RedM believes that the key to advancing the movement against human trafficking is to empower society with information, action opportunities and stories that inspire change and compassion. Our tournament doubled in size this year, hosting a total of 34 teams. Thank you to all of the players, sponsors and volunteers that made this event a great success!
On May 8, 2024, a group of DNOW Lights volunteers dedicated their time at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston, engaging in activities to help kids develop vital skills such as confidence, resilience and teamwork, and preparing them for any path they choose. From sports like basketball to supporting their entrepreneurial mindsets, our employees enjoyed meaningful interactions with the kids at the Club.
DNOW Lights continues to volunteer at one of the local Houston Boys & Girls Clubs the second Wednesday of every month. Summer months have an influx of kids that need to be kept entertained and busy, so our volunteers bounced around from room to room, enjoying activities such as volleyball, soccer, board games, video games, art projects, STEM projects and more.
On May 10, 2024, a group of DNOW employees from Odessa, Texas gifted a box of fresh cookies to the nurses of Medical Center Hospital to show them our gratitude during Nurse Appreciation Week. Thank you to our nurses for your care, expertise and everything you do!
The DNOW Lights team attended the Houston Great Strides walk at the Houston Zoo on May 18, 2024. Great Strides is an annual event organized by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation that aims to raise funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis (CF) research and support programs. Funds raised through the Great Strides walk help support advancements in CF treatments and care, ultimately working towards finding a cure for this genetic disease.
On May 19, 2024, DNOW Lights teamed up with the Houston Humane Society. Our dedicated volunteers rolled up their sleeves to tackle a range of shelter duties, from packing pet food to organizing supplies and pampering the dogs with grooming sessions. Naturally, we also cherished the opportunity to spend quality time playing with and showing love to these animals before concluding our shift!
On May 23, 2024, a group of DNOW Lights volunteers from our Odessa, Texas Supercenter showed out in our bright colors for the Keep Odessa Beautiful project. Volunteers worked hard picking up trash along Billy Hext Road, beautifying their community and promoting cleanliness.
On May 30, 2024, DNOW Lights teamed up with the Orr's Hope Foundation. The Orr’s Hope Foundation works to support Wyoming families facing the many challenges of premature birth and children with medically complex conditions. Our team raised $2,000 in donations at the event by collecting money to shoot the DNOW Lights ball cannon.
A group of DNOW Lights volunteers in Denver, Colorado participated in the Stepping Stone 5K on June 2, 2024. Stepping Stone Support Center and Trailhead Community came together to host this amazing event to benefit adults with developmental disabilities.
On June 8, 2024, a group of DNOW Lights volunteers spent their morning at Books Between Kids, a Houston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing books to children in need. Their mission is to build home libraries and foster a love of reading among Houston's at-risk children. The organization collects gently-used children's books through community book drives and donations. These books are then sorted and distributed to children from low-income families at schools and community centers throughout the Houston area.
